Date: Sat Oct 04 23:50:04 2008 Medium-large dark grizzly seen foraging a digging before reching the bridge as one walks away from Mt Norquay. Date: Sat Oct 04 12:48:43 2008 A medium size black bear ran across the Trans Canada from the north side to the south side just east of the Lac Des Arcs interchange. He came out of the woods, crossed the exit ramp, crossed the west bound lanes, and last I saw him he was running across the eastbound lanes. He was in a hurry... Date: Tue Sep 23 10:57:02 2008 We were taking a break on the short paved bike path beween Turner Valley and Black Diamond and had a close encounter with a mother bear and her two cubs. We were warned by a motorist travelling the highway that there were three bears directly below where we were located. Could hear the bears approaching. Date: Mon Sep 22 15:44:39 2008 Black bear spotted just below the ridge between Mist Creek and Picklejar Creek. We were in a group of 3 across the valley just below the pass. <mailman.53.1221231680.23400.trailex@xxxxxxxxxxx> The three of us came upon a bear at the first bridge outbound on the Paradise Valley Trail, coming back from the Giant Steps. The bear stopped for a moment, looked at us, and then ran off. It was a smaller bear and didn't exhibit any aggressive tendencies. Always be prepared. Date: Sat Aug 16 22:00:41 2008 While biking in Larch Islands saw black bear scat on trail...after crossing back and on the east side of the creek saw the bear feeding on berries along the creek. Date: Fri Aug 15 09:51:09 2008 Large dark brown-coloured black bear seen 100 metres behind the last house on the upper Benchlands Terrace. Bear watched for a moment then briskly walked away. Date: Thu Jul 10 23:14:46 2008 A delayed posting. Observed two wolves, one male black & silver, one smaller, possibly female, dark but with some brown. They were just east of Pigeon Creek, coming from the area of the water treatment plant, crossing the road to the nuisance grounds, moving south towards Hwy 1. No aggressive behaviour noted. Interesting animals to watch for a few minutes. They appeared interested & curious, but very wary. When they decided to leave, they did so in a hurry. Always be prepared. Date: Wed Jun 04 21:35:59 2008 Our group of riders came across a black bear and her two cubs. Mama bear wasn't sure what to do about us but her cubs quickly ran up a tree. Date: Tue Apr 08 08:11:10 2008 Saw fresh tracks heading up a relatively open slope crossing our path - an adult cougar was about 20 m above us. Date: Tue Mar 25 22:17:36 2008 Over the past month our family has made a few hikes in the Horseshoe Trail area (near the ACC clubhouse) and noted some recent bear sign, most notably at least to visits to a large fallen down log that we nicknamed the "hide and seek log" a few years ago. Date: Tue Oct 09 11:13:00 2007 On Sunday, 2 hikers reported seeing a Grizzly bear ambling down the trail ahead of them, approximately 2 km from the Goat Creek Trailhead, East end of Rundle. The hikers caught up to it twice, both times it stood up and took a few steps toward them, then continued down the trail. Mountain bikers then caught up to the bear again. The bear ran away briefly from the second biker to catch up to him; but stayed on the trail for at least several km. This bear did not appear agressive; but also did not show fear.
